Wizard Support – Tips For Writing, Math, Reading and more! (Verison 0.1.5)

Hello.  This is the Wizard Of Words speaking. Some of you may have troubles with recent assignments including writing. That is why I, the Wizard Of Words, has made this post.

                                                  Grammar

As yes, the infamous grammar mistakes are part of the reasons why some of you fail Edmodo assignments. For example, I had gotten a 2 before because of a single grammar issue. It is crucial you pay attention to this topic. So here are some tips:

  1. Download Grammarly

It may not seem like it, but Grammarly will literally correct ALL of your grammar mistakes with a little green icon in the bottom right corner glowing red when there is a grammar issue. Usually, words that are not spelt or typed correctly will be underlined with a smooth red line. Grammarly is crucial for grammar mistakes, even Mr Garcia had recommended it. If you don’t have Grammarly, you should get it now if you want to make your writing improve!

2. Improve your vocabulary

Vocabulary is also another essential element in writing. Without vocabulary, you would be using 1st-grade words when you are already half way in sixth grade! If you want to improve your vocabulary, read more books, possibly check out the dictionary, or go and practice writing things! Reading more books is my recommendation, as there are many words in books (depending on your reading level and vocabulary) that you may not know! If you don’t know those words in that book you were just reading, ask an adult or google it!

3. Working with others

Collaborating (working with other peers) is also another great way to improve! It may not seem like it because you might be collaborating with others on reading or math, but by learning from them you can use that knowledge in your writing as well! For example, when I heard the word “Elaborate” from someone, I learned about it and used it in my writing pieces. Working with parents is also a very good way as parents and elders have a lot more knowledge and you could learn from them.

Concealed Guns – Should adults have the right to carry one?  

           How should one act during a terrorist attack, a robbery, or if a crime is currently being committed and one is equipped with a concealed handgun? A concealed weapon is when a person carries a hidden weapon for many purposes. Concealed handguns protect people who cannot always can’t rely on police forces for protection. Most adults who carry concealed guns are law-abiding and do not misuse their firearm. Concealed guns can also help deter crime when law officials aren’t around.  

Concealed weapons can help people who are in possible danger when police aren’t around. According to ProCon.org, “A 2013 research article in the Wall Street Journal reported that the average police response time to an emergency call is 11 minutes, with some responses taking much longer. In Detroit, the average response time is 58 minutes.” This means that when there is a shooting, robbery or some other crime going on, the police will take a while to respond to the scene. So, when people who are armed with concealed weapons witness this happen, they could make a choice and step up to assist the police by stopping or at least stall the criminals before the police arrive. For example, according to John R. Lott Jr., Ph.D., “when states passed concealed carry laws during the 19 years we studied (1977 to 1995), the number of multiple-victim public shootings declined by 84%. Deaths from these shootings plummeted on average by 90%, injuries by 82%.” To elaborate, once the law was passed for citizens to carry concealed weapons, the number of multiple-victim public shootings declined by a lot.   

Adults who carry concealed firearms always follow the law and do not take advantage of their weapons. According to ProCon.org, “A 2000 report by engineering statistician William Sturdevant shows that in Texas, the general public is 5.3 times more likely to be arrested for violent offenses and 14 times more likely to be arrested for non-violent offenses than concealed carry weapon permit holders”. This means that adults do not abuse their power and use their firearms responsibly. For example, an analysis of crime data by Nick Leghorn, blogger at “The Truth About Guns,” found that concealed carry permit holders in North Carolina are five times less likely to kill someone than the general public. To elaborate, adults who carry legal firearms are five times less likely to kill a civilian in the public.  

Lastly, concealed handguns can prevent crimes and reduce the chances of murder, robbery and more when law officials aren’t around to handle the situation. According to ProCon.org, “States that implemented “shall-issue” concealed carry laws reduced murders by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7%, and robbery by 3%”. This means that when the law for adults to carry concealed guns was passed, murders, rapes, and other crimes were reduced significantly thus keeping the world safer and a better place for the innocent. If this law was passed earlier, there would have been less trouble back then. For example, according to a 2000 analysis of FBI crime data by economist and political commentator John R. Lott Jr., Ph.D. Lott calculated that 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults, and 12,000 robberies could have been prevented between 1977 and 1992 if concealed carry had been legal in every US state during those time periods. To elaborate, if the law was passed around 1977 and 1992, many of these crimes wouldn’t have happened.  

In conclusion, a concealed handgun is a hidden handgun which adults use for specific purposes like self-defence and many other ways. Concealed handguns are great when people who are in need cannot always rely on police enforcement. Adults who carry concealed firearms are also law-abiding and do not take advantage of their uses with their weapons. Adults armed with hidden firearms can also help deter crime.

Although social media is widely praised for its features and content it produces, it also has its flaws. One reason social media is favourited by many and many people is that one, it spreads information faster than any other media. A second reason is that social media and the internet is a very good source of entertainment for most people that use it.

 

First, technology and social media could be really useful since it is a great source of information. Social media is very popular among this generation and a lot of good information is put on there like news. According to the website ProCon.org “,78.5% of traditional media reporters polled used social media to check for breaking news. 59% of Twitter users and 31% of Facebook users polled followed breaking news on these sites. Social media sites are one of the top news sources for 46% of Americans, compared to 66% for television, 26% for printed newspapers, and 23% for radio”. This means that a lot of people use social media to gain more information and news than a traditional radio/television. For example, 78.5% of traditional media reports polled used social media to look out for news, and only 66% and 23% of people use television and radio for breaking news. To elaborate, more people would use social media to know what’s going on in the world and any other information that might interest them. 

 

Second, the internet and social media is a great way to pass time. A lot of people play video games, use social media and the internet and technology to have fun and get entertainment instead of being at home doing nothing all day. People are occupied on their devices and it can give a lot of people happiness and satisfaction. This could also improve their attitude, social life and feel better around others. According to ProCon.org “More than 25% of teens report that social media makes them feel less shy, 28% report feeling more outgoing, and 20% report feeling more confident”. This means that more than 25% of teenagers have felt that being on social media helped them feel a bit less shy, 28% felt more outgoing and happy and 20% felt more confident, which can help a lot in life. For example, Youth who are “less socially adept” report that social media gives them a place to make friends. To elaborate, kids and teens who are using social media feel that social media help make friends.

 

Lastly, law enforcement can use the social media to gain personal information on possible escapees or criminals and track them down and arrest them or punish them. According to ProCon.org, it states “73% of federal, state, and local law enforcement professionals surveyed think “social media helps solve crimes more quickly”. This means that 73% of the law enforcement professionals believe that social media helps solve crimes faster and more efficiently. For example, 85% police departments use social media to solve crimes. To elaborate, this means that social media has other uses other than just spreading information. It can also be used to solve crimes, find criminals and track them down. 

 

While social media, the internet and technology have its great uses and can benefit in others work, life and more, it also has some flaws. Children who tend to use social media a lot tend to get lower grades, which can affect them in school, life and other important things. According to ProCon.org, it states “31% of teens say that using social media during homework reduces the quality of their work. Students who used social media had an average GPA of 3.06 while non-users had an average GPA of 3.82.” This means that kids and teens who used social media a lot usually get a grade point average of below 4.0 which is not good.

For example, College students’ grades dropped 0.12 points for every 93 minutes above the average 106 minutes spent on Facebook per day. This means that even college students are losing GPA points for every 93 minutes on Facebook (A social media website). To elaborate, students are losing GPA (Grade Point Average) points every 93-106 minutes spent on facebook which is really bad especially for college students and children. 

In conclusion, social media can be good in many ways. People love using the internet, technology and social media. Some people say that they can’t live without them. One reason that social media and the internet, in general, is popular and loved by a lot around the world is that social media currently spread information and news faster than any other media. Another reason why social media is favourited by many is that people usually use social media and the internet to pass away time and have fun without boredom weighing on them all day. One last reason that social media can be very useful and loved by many is that even the police/law enforcement units use social media to track down and prosecute any criminals, escapees and more. But while social media has a lot of good things to it there can also be bad things. Students who are heavy social media users tend to get lower grades in school which can affect them a lot.
